Synopsis
Amazon.comOne of many younger guitarists drawing comparisons to Stevie Ray Vaughan, Corey Stevens at his best does indeed draw close to Vaughan in both skill and soul. Unlike many younger bluesmen, Stevens can tackle ballad and rocker with equal aplomb, and his guitar work on some of the slower songs on Road to Zen (check out "Lessons of Love" and "Blues Are Here to Stay," for instance) is nothing short of superb. The title track is excellent as well, a wandering, on-the-road ballad that draws the listener across a big-sky desert one moment and leaves one in a crowded airport late at night the next. Stevens is equally good when he rocks out, as with the purely Southern-style "Only One for You," or the appropriately high-energy closer to this album, "Charles Bronson Vibe." While Stevens hasn't attracted as much attention as have his contemporaries, he shows every sign of being a stayer. --Genevieve Williams

Jim P. (Guitarmusiclover11) from BRUCE, WI Reviewed on 2/5/2011... My impression of "Road to Zen" is that it's part rock-part blues.
Two tracks that will make an impression are "Charles Bronson Vibe", which rocks out to lyrics that make you think.
The second is "My neighborhood".
The blues material on this cd are very good also.
I personally prefer his earlier cd "Blue Drops of Rain".
"Road to Zen" is worthy of a spot on your tower if you like guitar-driven blues and rock.
That's not saying that Corey Stevens isn't a good singer. He is. With a voice reminiscent on some songs like Clapton and sometimes similar to SRV.
He's talented that's for sure.

One of the best Bluesmen ever!!!!! RR | 11/21/2006 (5 out of 5 stars) "Corey Stevens is one of the most original Bluesmen around right now. He continues to push the envelope on each record. Stevens knows no musical boundaries. Instead of putting out stale old cover songs like most bands these days, the majority of Stevens music is original music he wrote himself. Stevens has more integrity than any of this "new" generation of people trying to play Blues. Corey Stevens has staying power, he's been in the business for many years, and there's a reason for that, because he is a true blue Bluesman, who's music is real. Corey Stevens is keeping the blues BLUE. I stand behind every record he makes because I can recognize true genius, true talent when I hear it. Stevie Ray Vaughan & Corey Stevens are the ONLY white Bluesmen I listen to. I think that says alot that I give them the honor of being in the same category of Bluesmen like Albert King, Buddy Guy, BB King, Freddie King, Robert Johnson, Elmore James, etc. Corey Stevens is every bit as much of a Bluesman as they all are. Stevens lives and breathes the Blues. Don't believe any of the negative reviews you see on here, just buy this record now, and you too will hear this is true! In a 100 years from now Corey Stevens will be remembered as one of the Legends of Blues, he will be talked about in the same sentences mentioning the Kings of the Blues. If you are not yet a fan of Stevens, buy this CD and you will be, and if by chance after that you're somehow not, then my friend you are tone deaf. Corey Stevens is one of the best! Your Blues CD collection is not complete until you have each one of his records in it! This will be one of the best purchases you make!"
