"If you are not familiar with Controlled Bleeding, the band is abundant with imaginings of soundscapes in a wide range of intention, from dark to very dark to almost scary!. The band's members are risk-takers in the manipulation of sound as well as the instruments they perform with. I have seen this band listed in Gothic, Alternative and electronic. All of the categories fit in a way. Between Tides is almost a tour de force in auditory shaping and tone manipulations. It is not a soothing record by any means, nor is it boring. It is an intense spin. Most of their songs do not rely on rythmn, however this record is more compositionally structured than some of their earlier or later release. Though an "upfront" rythmn does not exist at all with most of the pieces, compositional rythmic & melodic patterns are recognizable on this record.
Every Controlled Bleeding recording I have has taken awhile to grow on me... but it does. Parts of it may disturb you- yet, if you want adventures is "pop", you will get this here! Little or no singing though (which is fine by me!). The first cut is WAY ahead of its time! Great spin!"
