Not much like it out there

"These two European players are among the most accomplished on their respective instruments. Together, they weave a magical soundscape, although one, it must be admitted, that presents certain difficulties when listened straight through for over 70 minutes. The problem is the limited sonic range of the instruments (clarinet/bass clarinet and accordion). True, the accordion, especially as played by Galliano, one of the true masters of the instrument, can take on shades of an organ, harmonium, bagpipes, and various string instruments, thus creating quite a range of sounds. Add to that the astounding playing of Michel Portal, one of the greatest living clarinetists, and you have consistently infections and swinging music that not infrequently breaks beyond its limited palette and becomes practically transcendent.
Nevertheless, this is music best listened to in smaller doses. That way, the relatively static sonorities don't overwhelm the listener, making it difficult if not impossible to appreciate not only the inherent beauty contained in this entirely remarkable disc but also the incredible level of playing, conversation, and interaction these two musicians achieve.
Unusual and satisfying."
