"If you have never heard Giuliani played on period instruments, you are in for a treat. If you have, and haven't heard the Maccari-Pugliese Duo then you will still find much to enjoy. Yes, they play with an assortment of great old guitars, such as Guadagnini, Fabricatore and Pons, and yes, they are strung with gut. The music is played from original scores according to Bel Canto style. But what really distinguishes this great recording is the vitality and passion of the performance."

"Giuliani's music is still not well known to many guitarist hobbiests. We seem to be limited to his studies and other student pieces. He's always tuneful and frequently very demanding. His command of the instrument is extraodinary and his use of musical forms commanding.

It was therefore a great pleasure to hear this recording of his little known works for guitar duo. Played on period instruments, one come away with a feel for how Giuliani heard these pieces and perhaps a better idea of what he wanted. The playing is excellent and the note helpful.

I recommend it highly."
