"The most significant work in this splendid collection of Schubert piano duets is the so-called "Lebensstürme", written in the last six months of Schubert's life. It is music that can put you in touch with exquisite joy and also overwhelming horror. Found here also is one of his very first works for piano duet, composed at the age of 14. Two of the most expansive marches are also here, the wonderful pair forming D 886. Husband and wife performers Anthony Goldstone and Caroline Clemmow not only play everything with the uncanny precision that sometimes makes me feel I am listening to a pianola player roll, but they also provide full and satisfying program notes. Offering nearly 78 minutes of music, this 1999 release is the fifth in a complete series these artists have provided of Schubert's works for piano duet."
