The group's a sextet led by Bobby Hackett on cornet and Bob Wilber on clarinet, alto, tenor, soprano sax, and a bit of vibes, working in a trad Jazz mode, but often with some wonderfully blue tones that really help break the work away from any expected clich?s! The other instrumentation includes piano, bass, drums, and baritone sax, all used in relatively inventive combinations that often show traces of contemporaneous chamber Jazz modes, despite the more traditional presentation of the material.
