"Of all The Clancy Brothers cds,this one is my favorite.
With it's hearty drinking songs making it a very fun and funny cd.The Irish know how to have a good time.
This cd provides merriment and you don't need to drink to enjoy their drinking songs.
Highly recommended for a great time!"

"Yes! You have to own this. If youre trying to decide which Clancy Bros. CD to buy or if you're just curious about Irish folk music, I HIGHLY recommend this CD. I dont have the CD. I have the original vinyl! (yes! original from the late 50's...I think! AWESOME!) But every song on this one is fantastic. It takes you places. It moves you. Makes you laugh. Makes you FEEL something deeper than youre usual musical experience. I have been a BIG fan of the Clancy's for years and this was one of the first albums of their's I ever bought. I got it at a thrift shop and it was like..."Wow....whats this??" THEN I listened to it and I was amazed! Its not your typical ( or stereotypical??) Irish music. Its the real thing! THEY were the real thing. They were just REAL fellas doin what they were PUT HERE to do and Tommy Makem will astound you- I promise! These guys were NOT a manufactured, assembly line group- like so many "folk" groups.You wont regret it! Just a good time buncha tunes! I dont know what else to say. Everythings been said so many times. I love these guys!
All the songs are awesome but youll love :
* Courting in the Kitchen
* Finnigan's Wake
* Rosin the Bow
* The Parting Glass
Peace and love to you and have fun!"

"This is a fabulous CD. My favorite song on it is Jug of Punch, I have such great memories of listening to them sing it back in the 60's. It was great to rediscover them recently when I found this CD of songs I heard on old LP records! (Holy cow -- remember RECORDS??)
The best part is listening without the crackeling sound of records that you've played hundreds of times!
If you like the Clancy Brothers, you'll love this CD."

"This 1959 album is a fantastic look into the makings of one of the greatest Irish groups of the century. At this time, the Clancy's were just getting started in New York as actors. They were only singing as a side gig!! After a huge performance on Ed Sullivan in 1961, they went on to be huge stars for Columbia records. Anyway, about the music. Some of these songs are great, but would later be surpassed by better and more livelier versions, such as "Portlarige", "Johnny McEldoo", "Jug of Punch", and "Courting in the Kitchen". However, some of these tracks in my opinion remain the best versions ever recorded, such as "The Parting Glass" and "Mick McGuire". "The Maid of the Sweet Brown Knowe" appears here as the only recording ever done of this song by the Clancy/Makem quartet. The sound quality of this release is superb. These tracks have appeared on numerous complation albums in terrible sound quality. Spend the extra few bucks and get this one, you won't be sorry."
Love the Clancy Brothers!
