Product DescriptionContaining over 50 minutes of epic & theatrical power metal, Colossus sonically spans four decades of heavy music that will appeal to fans of Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Spinal Tap, Bandway, Blind Guardian, Hammerfall, Dragonforce, Slayer, Thin Lizzy, Deep Purple, and Thunderlip. Hailing and reigning from Raleigh, North Carolina, the rock capital of the south, Colossus pays tribute to their classic metal forebears with a dual-lead guitar onslaught and soaring vocals. Sean Buchanan sings chansons de geste, describing a world filled with swordsmen, vigilantes, armored badgers and supernatural encounters in a voice equally indebted to David Bowie and Rob Halford. Buchanan is backed by the precision fretwork of guitarists Bill Fischer and Nicholas Perros, bong-shattering bass of Rylan Wilshire-Eshelman and the tympanic battery of Ben "Thunderballs" Smith. Eshelman, Perros, and Smith began playing together in 2004, writing instrumentals with hopes of eventually finding a singer. During the half time of the Superbowl that year, Eshelman, Perros and Smith convinced Buchanan to try out on some Iron Maiden covers. "I remember that we did ÔHallowed Be Thy Name' " said Eshelman, "Éhe killed itÉ" Finally, when they drafted rock veteran Bill Fischer, Colossus was born again. "No song seemed complete until it got a solo from each of us," said Perros. In short order Colossus went from packing out house shows to sharing the stage with acts such as Valient Thorr, Drunk Horse, Birds of Avalon, and Thunderlip. In May of 2006 Colossus gathered in Chapel Hill and put metal to tape in a three song demo with Al Jacobs and Mitch Marlowe at Warrior Sound Studios. In a little under a year, they were back to record this; their first full length Ð "Rift of the Pan-Dimensional Under-Gods." What are the songs about? "Well, we've got medieval combat between woodland creatures, role playing games, desert vigilantes obviously, intercourse with trans-dimensional entities, and fantasy films by Ron Howard, even though there's only one. There's something for everyone." Ð Sean Buchanan. Balancing technique with attitude, Colossus frequently astounds audiences with how much fun they have playing together. Touring extensively in anticipation of the release, Colossus has honed their live performance gig after gig. When asked about the future, singer Buchanan has a pretty clear vision: "Eventually it would be cool to have a castle setup like Bruce [Dickenson] has. I want to run around in some ramparts, anything with a portcullis."
