The members of Phoenix-based Colorstore include one classically trained musician and a few postpunk junkies, and their music is exactly that diverse. Together as a quartet since 2003, their live shows are inexplicably dynamic and filled with raw emotion and energy. A never-changing arsenal of instrumentation Rhodes piano to accordion to railroad ties creates everything from Tom Waits- influenced psycho babble to Radiohead's lush pop beauty, punctuated by Walkmen-style rhythms. Colorstore recently Bonefish: The Legend of Mahogany Cass, their second full-length, finds them delving into new creative realms. Full horn sections, accordion, uke, and other instrumentation add to the unique nature of their songwriting, which is cleverly bold and at times risky.
