CD Reviews

Great Single
Chris Meyer | Holland, MI United States | 06/08/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Why Pt. 2 is a great guitar rock song from a great rock band (I may be biased, since Collective Soul is my favorite band). As far as singles go, this one serves the purpose intended by a single. It highlights a terrific song (Why Pt. 2), and gives the listener a couple added bonus tracks to make buying the single worth their while. In this case, the acoustic demos of Over Tokyo and Why Pt. 2 (songs off their "Blender" album) are great additions to the single. These versions are simply the lead singer, Ed Roland, and a guitar in early studio recordings of the songs. Despite their simplicity, they are very enjoyable to listen to. As you can probably guess, I picked up the CD to get my hands on a recording of these two versions of the songs. Collective Soul songs sound excellent acoustic, especially since they are known more for their rock songs. If you like the way Over Toyko and Why Pt. 2 sound acoustic, make sure you check out Collective Soul's Music In High Places video/DVD (I highly recommend the DVD) to hear a bunch of their songs in full acoustic glory. I was very pleased with this purchase, and I recommend this single to anybody who likes Collective Soul, or even just the song Why Pt. 2."
