Saved Me from the Rain
Lee Armstrong | Winterville, NC United States | 11/23/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Colin Linden's music consistently engages. Why he is not a major star in the United States is a true puzzle. His song "The Last Thought" from his Big Mouth CD is somewhat belatedly zooming up my personal Top 10. His work as part of Blackie & the Rodeo Kings jams the repeat button on my changer. The opening title track here sets toes tapping with Colin's love song, "Who's the fairest one around? It must be my baby when she lays her body down." "Between Darkness & the Light of Day" is a catchy gem that sticks in your head, "My feet are weary but my heart is strong; Somehow or other I will carry on when I lift my spirit and sing my song." The album is dedicated to session man Richard Bell. The ballad "I've Seen a Miracle" softly aches, "I've watched the hand of God when you came out to play." On "John Lennon in New Orleans" he turns in an intimate performance on slow gorgeous ballad, "They'll find me in the morning; You never knew my name; I was hiding in the storm & you saved me from the rain." Gary Nicholson co-wrote the throbbing "The Price You Pay." "When the first has become the last, and the troubles of the world are in the past, I'll know the answer to the mystery," Colin sings as he mashes a hook in his distinctive way on "The Heaven Me." The CD concludes with the lovely hoedown "God Will Always Remember Your Prayers," "When you get on your knees and pray, He may not answer right away, but he will always remember your prayer." This is an incredibly strong set with Linden playing his A-game. Bravo!"
A Must For Your Blues Collection
Grace Bellefeuille | Toronto, Canada | 12/24/2009

"Colin Linden sings to all of us on this recording; the lost, the lonely, the loved and the rest. With a New Orleans sensibility, the title track "From the Water" has us shaking our hips and dancing around the room. "John Lennon in New Orleans" evokes emotions as much as any heartbroken ballad by Roy Orbison. "Mon Couer Est dans Tes Mains" needs no translation.

Colin has fun growling and howling on "Trouble Only Comes in Threes" and it comes through. You believe his heart is broken in two on "Sinking Down Slow" and lifted to the skies in "I Have Seen a Miracle."

The toe-tapping "Devilment" seduces with piano and harmonica, played with bluesy abandon.

Recorded in studios in both Nashville and Canada and in collaboration with long-time musical accomplices and virtuoso guests, this is Colin Linden's magnum opus.
