A first-rate blues album

"This is a great album. Colin Linden is a supremely talented singer and songwriter, as virtually every track here proves. The best songs are "Raging River", a haunting, evocative track, and "George Chuvalo", a moving tribute to the legendary Canadian boxer. If you like Linden, I also recommend his album "South at Eight, North at Nine", or, if you want an overview of his career, "Sad and Beautiful World", a compilation recently released in Canada."
Delightful!

"This album is fantastic! The songs are consistently strong. The record company describes this album as "hoodoo meets voodoo"; and it's an appropriate description. Fans who like Creedence Clearwater, Dr. John or Tony Joe White should seek out this treasure. "Too Late to Holler" is flat out swamp rock propelled by a stinging guitar and the great lyric, "Let my soul commence to roll on the day that I die." If the skeleton on the cover is an indication, this album rolls and rocks. "He Wasn't Fooling" is another strong song that bounces almost as much as rocks. The other hot rocker on this album is "Twister" with an organ-drenched sound. Linden does do some ballads, too. Bruce Cockburn's "Anything Anytime Anywhere" is heavy on the soul horns and is a beautiful love song. "Raging River" with its plaintive haunting slide guitar is gorgeous. "Before the Blues" is a song searching for Ry Cooder with its great lyric, "You used to be such a mystery, Now you're like yesterday's news, That's the way it feels before the blues." "Ten Years" is a great smoky ballad that brings to mind Levon Helm and The Band. My favorite tune is "Love Everyone" with its cosmic spiritual lyrics mixed low so as not to hit you over the head with the power of love. There are so many strong songs on this CD! Although this is Linden's sixth album, it is only his second release in the USA. Don't miss out on one of Canada's best-kept secrets!"
