A distinct effort that showcases the talents of all assembled....almost to the point of self indulgence. The playing is superb, purposeful and eccentric The style liberties exude fun and confidence and a distinct answer to a current take on Jazz as an off shoot from the Marsellis traditionalists. Rest assured demands multiple listens and well deserves

(5 out of 5 stars)

"3 extraordinary musicians -- clusone does it all. they play inside, outside, and back again, all in the same cut. they can go off an a furious free jazz invention, and then segue back into a slow classic with horn solos and brush work that will send chills down your spine. They make all of the Wynton-inspired debate irrelevant, because they assimilate everything from jellyroll to cecil taylor and push it forward, and somehow make it still fun. drummer Benninck is dazzling -- anybody know what he's playing at the beginning of the last track? a video game? Moore plays it the hard way -- no (or few) sonic tricks, just tone and lyricism. and Reijsinger (sp?) does everything with the cello -- why isn't this a more widespread jazz instrument? There are musical conflicts between the 3 of them which just propel things forward, but when they settle into a groove, they just swing as well as anybody...ever. Buy this cd; it's a crime these guys are not more well-known in this country!"
