Product DescriptionOver 60 operas, 700 cantatas, and 35 oratorios, masses, and motets to cite
only his vocal music define a musical career that lasted almost 50 years,
and yet the process of discovery and appreciation of the music of Alessandro
Scarlatti is far from complete. There were some fundamental steps that were
made (the first, in chronological order, is the monograph by Edward J. Dent, Alessandro Scarlatti: His Life and Works, London, Arnold 1905) and there have been some sporadic flares of interest since then (such as the week of
Scarlattian studies, conceived by Alfredo Casella and Sebastiano A. Luciani and organized by the Accademia Chigiana of Siena in 1940). But for the most part, the immense production of the Sicilian maestro remains shrouded in
a thick fog of oblivion. This CD pays homage to the musical art of one the
greatest Italian composers of all time.
