"like most dumb white guys, my first exposure to zydeco came through stuff like Paul simon's GRACELAND and the name Clifton Chenier stuck in my brain. A couple of decades later, our library has a few choice buckwheat Zydeco CDs on file and finally, here's the king of 'em all, Clifton Chenier, washboard, electric guitar and accordian: how cool is that? If I'da known how incredibly awesome an accordian can sound, i'da taken lessons.
You can't hate the accordian when its played right, and here, it is sterling.
This is killer blues and real zydeco: happy and sad mixing together like sweet and sour ribs. You CANNOT go wrong with this CD; put it on and feel better. HMOs should give it out to people; we all get the blues, but a well-worn bluesman celebrates our ability to appreciate that we can, really, feel lousey and love it. Great blues embraces our humanity and serves it up hot, like dancing in the street on the Day of the Dead. Chenier's sound is simple and magical stuff; and while you're unlikely to find it on the radio outside of Chicago's WXRT or satellite stations, here it is to buy and own for yourself, and support a genre that should never, ever end."
