It is frequently termed the "German Organ Mass." Bach's main intention in this "compendium of the art of the organ" was probably to present the formal diversity of organ composition. According to the organist's words in the supplemental notes, the overall structure of the cycle represents an impressive glorification of the Holy Trinity.« less
