Album DescriptionEverything you wanted to hear by Philadelphia's multi-talented and mysterious Claudine Clark, including some alternate takes, great unissued tracks and a big-time northern soul rarity. Claudine's Top 5 record Party Lights was a great example of the early Philadelphia sound. Her recording of The Strength To Be Strong is regarded as a Deep Soul classic, thanks to a 5-star review by Dave Godin in 1966. 1964's Goodbye Mama is even more collectable, currently changing hands for £500 a copy. Girl group fans collect her records and she appeals to soul buffs too. Her single The Telephone Game is a popular item on the Northern Soul scene. Our CD contains many tracks unavailable elsewhere, including a great previously unissued version of Buttered Popcorn, the Supremes song. Claudine recorded for six labels, all of which are included. She also recorded under a couple of pseudonyms and those tracks are included too. Compiled and annotated by Mick Patrick.
