"Even though this is a budget classical CD, it offers excellent performances by Jeno Jando (Tchaikovsky piano concerto #1) and Emmy Verhey (Tchaikovsky violin concerto). Jeno Jando is featured in the Naxos label and he is an excellent artist. Emmy Verhey is not as well-known but her re-endition of the violin concerto is very musical and energetic. Jando is backed up by the Budapest Philharmonic (conducted by Andras Ligeti) and Verhey is backed up by the Budapest Symphony Orchestra (conducted by Arpad Joo). I am a collector of Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto #1/ Violin Concerto CDs and I have many different higher-priced versions. I still enjoy listening to this CD.



This CD used to be under the Laserlight label under a different cover. It was rated 5 stars (outstanding) by Penguin Budget Classical CD guide in 1992.



The sound quality of this CD will not compare with higher-priced CDs (it is a bit on the soft side so you have to turn up the volume), but for the very low cost, this CD is a real bargain. I don't know about the other performances under this budget label, but I can vouch for this one. Give it a try and see. You'll be pleasantly surprised."
