CD Reviews

A little something special for the fans
FixMe | 11/27/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Coming off the surprise success of Sometimes, the debut of Alexisonfire's own Dallas Green, it was no great shock to see the release of City And Colour LIVE. And I am happy to report that, yes, these live versions are...mostly as enjoyable as the studio recordings.

City and Colour LIVE includes most of the songs from Sometimes, plus some tracks that didn't see release. "Forgive Me", "Confessions", and "Sensible Heart" are all previously unreleased tracks, and they are all some of Green's strongest work. These are all ballads with the typical guitar driven melodies familiar to C&C fans.

It is also worth noting that you will find two alternate performances(chiefly the switch to electric). One for "Comin' Home" and another for "Save Your Scissors", "Comin' Home" being the easy choice between the two, as this alternate of "Save Your Scissors" is fairly, well, terrible. A lot of bum notes, and a somewhat strange arrangement. But you will be happy to know that poor performances are seldom found here. In fact, on a purely vocal level, there is some downright impressive singing on these discs.

City and Colour LIVE is actually a CD/DVD combo, so you have the choice of either watching the performances or listening to them. And in addition, the DVD has a couple of extra bonuses.

Overall, what you're looking at with City and Colour LIVE is a great value and certainly something to stem the tide as fans await C&C's next effort."
