CD Reviews

Straight up kickin' metal...
Keith Womack | Seattle, WA | 01/06/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I came upon these guys when I was checking out Lifeforce Records website for new releases. When I heard them I have to admit I immediately thought Soilwork/In Flames. But, the more I listened I started to hear this very unique sound and writing style that has grown on me a LOT. Their mix of guitar work, straight ahead drum action and more hardcore type vocals make them stand out amongst the many bands going for this sound. Also, their use of ambient keyboard stuff was done very subtle like as not to overwhelm the heck out of the music. The discs track listing is well thought out so you don't get bored easily. Straight up, these guys will be around for awhile, and if they're this good already, I can't WAIT to see what they come up with next."

"Someone obviously took meticulous notes in the melodic death metal workshop Dark Tranquility put on. Wish I could have made that. Then again there's nothing wrong with being influenced by one of the best bands in the genre and they do still maintain their own sound. That is, the sound of band ripping DT method. But I guess you could say that DT has severe Maiden influence along with every other melodic metal band worth their jockstrap. Regardless, they do a vicious job of it. This album is flat out sick from start to finish. I also hear some Incomplete influence in their music as well.

The production is excellent. I would prefer the drums tones be a little fatter and more noticeable in the mix, but I almost always feel that way. The drummer keeps good time but is definitely not a maestro and is not the most creative. The vocals really vary from everything from a hardcore yell to death growls and are good but nothing exceptional.

Out of 5 stars, I would give it a must hear B+, and had they not had such obvious inspiration, probably would have been an a solid A, out of 5 stars that is."
