Steve, Peter, Tim and Marty strike again
Louis Parrish | Georgia, United States | 12/28/2001
(4 out of 5 stars)

"The Church will continue to delight their faithful and baffle their detractors with this one. This is a magnificent little piece, a "must" for any Church fan and required listening for any Church critic. The three songs presented (two versions of the single "Numbers" plus two others) all have an irresistable droning quality, replete with that famous textural wall of sound that is The Church. I speak of the band as an intact unit and playing their own songs when I say it remains to be seen how the upcoming full length album will place in the group's modern history; but be it a somewhat uneven and intermittently painful aberration (i.e. Gold Afternoon Fix), another astonishing sonic achievement (i.e. Priest=Aura) or another knock-out triumph (i.e. Hologram of Baal), The Church, now in their third decade of making vital music, remain a constant: a true jewel in the crown of rock and its everchanging soundscapes."
If the new album is this good...

"What a single! It may take a couple of listens, but soon it becomes clear that Numbers is an absolute gem. An intense, electrifying song that ranks with their best, which is saying something. The extra tracks, as always with the Church, are also well worth hearing. Buy it and then get the new album which follows in February."
