"A lot of people listen to this CD and are a bit surprized by its Jazzy edge, however, this is the greased up Chuck Brown I remember from those great shows he'd put on with the P-Funk horns at TRAMPS in NYC. (Anybody know what east coast joints he's hitting these days ?) The whole Chuck Brown concept is non-stop dance music (hence the origins of the term Go Go - - go go as in non-stop) - - once the show starts, the music doesn't stop until the show ends... he goes from tune to tune, the horns hitting those high notes and turning even the tamest Jazz standards into feasts of "bump" madness... when the tunes end, the horn section might back off, but the congas and drum beats will still be driving... Chuck will be doing shout outs, rapping and you never know what's next. Sadly, many of Chuck's other CDs really capture the energy... the reason is, you can't really edit down the Chuck Brown experience down to four minutes of air play. Of course, I'm not saying don't get his other CDs, because odds are Chuck won't be playing tonight at a club around the corner from where you live, so its the best you'll get (not to give the wrong impression, he did cut some incredible studio grooves as well like Back It On Up, Bustin' Loose, We Need Some Money, etc. so get his Greatest Hits CD if you don't have it !)In summary, in my opinion, this CD is the closest you'll get to really getting the vibe of the Chuck Brown experience. I remember the first time I saw him... he opened up with MY FUNNY VALENTINE... of course, I was expecting to hear some ultra whacked out DC style Go Go funk (ala Trouble Funk and EU) - - he's playing it all Jazzy and mellow and suddenly *SLAP* and the band is getting all funky and percusive with that DC "Drop The Bomb" rhythm, then *slap* and he's Jazzy and mellow.Among the high points of this album are Tu Tu and Wind Me Up. My favorite tune he used to do at the show was Theme from 2001 : A Space Odyssey... woe that trumpet would shatter the glass and there would be some real jungle funk coming from the rhythm section. If you've read my other reviews you should know by now that I listen to a lot of music and have seen a lot of groups. I attest to the fact that Chuck Brown is just about as good as it gets, and until Chuck comes to your town (if he is let me know... I'll be the first on the plane) get this CD... believe me... Chuck will give you a good Windin' Up ! ! !"

"This is a Chuck Brown lassic. It's jazzed out a little more than some of his other CD's, but it still slams. You can listen to it at home, work or in your ride and feel comfortable. It's a must have--right after Go-Go Swing Live"
Move two steps over jazz because go-go will knock you out!

"This CD is Classic Chuck Brown "The Godfather of Go-Go". If you don't know what go-go is listen to this CD. This CD has a touch of jazz and funk; it moves you and grooves you; it mellows you out. A must for those jazz lovers out there as well as for those who know go-go."
