Synopsis

Album Description
Chris Opperman's sophomore effort, Klavierstücke (known to his fans as "the pretty piano record"), focuses on Opperman's idiosyncratic style of piano playing as he performs several of his piano compositions (and improvises a couple more). This CD features some of Opperman's prettiest music, including T. Williams, Melodious Monk, and ...as if it were made of glass..

CD Reviews

"Pretty piano album" indeed!
Ray Holmes | Ramona, CA United States | 12/20/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Unfortunately, I don't think "pretty" does this album justice. Gorgeous is, perhaps, more like it. Chris Opperman is somehow able to blend wierd, beautiful, harsh, confusing, happy, fun, interesting, and about a billion other adjectives into one heck of a solo piano album. From the wierd, disjunct sounds of "the jeans of r. mattoon" all the way to the unearthly beauty of "...as if it were made of glass." Klavierstucke is varied and intricate enough to entertain the harshest critics...including myself. So, if you enjoy piano albums, or even if you don't, you should by this gem...right now. Enjoy! These are some of my favorite tracks:
the jeans of r. mattoon, t. williams, ballad for a rainy sunday afternoon, sophia's dream, dodecahedron, an anton webern moment, hypocrisy, melodious monk, huggenkiss, and ...as if it were made of glass."

"I friend of mine bought this album for me and I absolutely love it. It's the perfect thing to put on during dinnertime or when looking to relax. It has a nice mix of uptempo and downbeat songs. Most classical bores me to death, but I just had to come say something nice about this CD!..."
