"The Gavel: Starts out with some wierd idm-percussion noises and beepings. Then it fades too a tape loop sort of rythm and bell tones and ambience underneath...a burst of noise, it all drops away, and in enters a totally awesome ambient bit. Alien and dark and evil. Finally, the idm percussion returns, and the two fight amongst each other. Reminds me of an attack on a distant outpost in space. Very fetching! Probably my favorite track on the ep, it has shovels and shovels worth of "mood" and "epicness."
Slow Spines: Atmospheric melody plays to a somewhat hip hop feeling, but distinctly Chris Clark glitchy idm sounding, beat. Then an odd (whistling? synth?) sound joins, and some other cool stuff happens. Cool sinister sounding track. I like this shorter version better than the one on "Empty the Bones of You."
Frost Investigation: Short track. Genius melody composed of static noise and a beautiful belltone/piano sound. Wonderful ambience and reverb builds in the background.
A. Council - Your standard acid idm. I found it somewhat uninspiring, but it'll appeal to fans of Richard D James's "Druqks"...pretty similar to some of that stuff, though maybe a bit less hard-edged.
Shonny - One of my favorites. Interesting melody, catchy and somewhat glitchy beat, occasional breaks and cool stuff happening.
Rob Lee - A sort of brain dance feel. A skronky little acid base dances to the accompaniment of some old school drum machine sounds, and then that drops, and then a very nice pad synth plays in it's place. It progresses nicely and does little things.
I am very excited with Chris Clark's work. He is making melodic and engaging idm in a time when I was beginning to lose faith in the genre. This is a somewhat short ep, but the music is quality stuff!"
