I am really glad that a few months ago I purchased Hyperion's "Dreamland", a collection of modern choral recordings from the hyperion catalogue. I normally never buy collections. Anyway, one of the pieces on that collection was from this CD, which I then purchased. The first thing to say is that Stephen Layton is in charge here and when it comes to choral music he definitely has the midas touch. The music in question, whilst modern, is nonetheless very accessible and also carries a certain emotional charge. All the pieces are for the catholic liturgy - it is simply wonderful to hear modern pieces for the sacred liturgy. So with beautiful singing and accessible modern music, this CD is a winner. Perhaps if you like this CD, you may wish to go on to listen to the music of Dubra, also on hyperion, although his music is emotionally supercharged!
