Heavy Neoclassical

"Hatebreeder has cemented itself in my top 5 favorite albums largely because of the ultra melodic styling of the leads played by Laiho. The music comes across as heavy and aggressive but there are great melodies over top from the guitar and the keys. The cover of Aces High is a pretty great "blackened" version of the Maiden favorite. This album represents a style that has started disappearing in more recent Bodom work which still features shred but doesn't have as many complex melodies as this album does. You can find a lot of melodies that are reminiscent of melodies you might find in concert/"classical" music. No Bodom fan should be without it, any guitar fan should at least listen to it. Memorable tracks include "Silent Night, Bodom Night", "Toward Dead End" (renamed on this re-release "Cowards Dead End"), and "Downfall". Of course if you're one of those that can't get past the screaming, then you're not going to like it anyway. I encourage you to at least give it a shot."

"This is one band that gets a really bad wrap that do not deserve it. I will be the first to admit their lyrics and vocals are pretty bad, but the music is right on point. There is so much neo-classical shredding on this album, and it really does help give it a pretty unique kind of flavor. The keyboards fit well due to the guitar sound being somewhat thin. "Cowards Dead End" is a personal favorite and has a neo-classical inspired solo fest for the last minute. "Bed of Razors" seamlessly incorporates the keyboards into the song to create another favorite. There is not one bad song on here, some just better then others. There is a certain degree of cheese to this album, but its all par for the course. This is where they really had something fun and exciting to contribute to the metal world, they have since become increasingly irrelevant with every passing album."

"it has great guitar. i really cant beleive how Laiho can scream that much but it works out great. favorite songs on this cd are probably Black widow, Downfall, Silent night Bodom night, and Hatebreeder. this is a great cd. but if you dont like screaming...this is definately not for you. but if you like screaming, speed metal or anything like that you should listen to it. overall it is a very good metal cd. (if you like this also look at Hate Crew Deathroll. thats another great cd by Children of Bodom which includes Needled 24/7.)"
