This release is an unnervingly assured introduction to two of Brooklyn's most exciting experimental bands. Miracle of Birth employs synths, sequencers, and other electronic instrumentation to create something that sounds like a long-lost science fiction movie soundtrack from the year 2456. The music's density and technical proficiency is made all the more astounding in light of the following fact: Jade Larson is the only member. Child Abuse delivers four no-nonsense tracks that bring together playfully wild keyboards, stuttering pile-driver percussion, and demonic vocal fits. References to John Surman, Suffocation, and Miles Davis are noted, but the group manages to let its individuality shine. A full length CD on Lovepump United will follow in early 2007.
