Great Early Chet

"This yet another fine early release on Pacific Jazz Records of Chet Baker. If you're a fan of Chet's trumpet playing, then this early recording is a great example. I never liked Chet's singing and think he can't sing, but he's definitely in my top 10 favorite jazz trumpeters of all time. He was lyrical and had a very melodic style, but he could swing it hard when the time came for him to do so. He was actually very technically proficient. "Chet Baker & Crew" is great release that captures the cool jazz style he had been working on. Joining Baker are Phil Urso (tenor saxophone); Bobby Timmons (piano); Jimmy Bond (bass); Peter Littman (drums); and Bill Loughbrough (on chromatic tympani on three tracks). This is recording and will not disappoint if you like the cool jazz style."
A Real Gem

"This is a bop CD in the West Coast fashion. It is almost all instrumental with only the last track having vocals. Fans of 50s jazz should consider this recording quintesential. Chet Baker shows good chops along with his excellent supporting side men. I wish most contemporary jazz players could put together a CD of this consistency.
This was recorded on tube equipment and perhaps even in mono. The sonics after remastering are quite good. Don't let the antiquity of this production turn you off."
