"It's about time my friends!! After such a LONG wait, we have a couple of Cheryl Lynn's CD's to enjoy besides her debut...AT A CHEAP PRICE!!! I have all of her music on CD that I had to pay both arms and legs for, that were issued only in Japan. I still got this set because I am her #1 fan, and if she released "Happy Birthday", I would buy it!! This set contains two of her best offerings. From the Ray Parker Jr. produced "In The Night" which has the smash "Shake It Up Tonight" to the Luther Vandross produced "Instant Love" which has the duet gem "If This World Were Mine". Ms. Lynn simply SHINES on this set!!! Her crisp, energetic, soulful, seductive, playful, and vocal acrobatics are AMAZING!!! The production is tight as a drum, and if you buy this set for this price , you are practically stealing it!!! YOU WON"T BE DISAPPOINTED !!! Because...if it's Cheryl Lynn....It's Gonna Be Right!!"
A Must Have For Every Fan

"What a thrill it was to learn that these two classic albums were finally being released on cd. If you enjoyed the dance/r&b sounds of the early 80's, then this 2 disc cd is for you. First you get Cheryl's bopping dance/funk grooves on In The Night, which features the classic club favorite "Shake It Up Tonight". You can hear Ray Parker, Jr. guitar ripping in the background on this and several other tracks. The album also features the hit singles "In The Night" and "Im On Fire". The 2nd cd, 1982 Instant Love, was produced by Luther Vandross. You hear his influence and backing vocals on such classic tracks as "Instant Love" and "Sleepwalking". But the track that helped make this album a huge success is Cheryl and Luther's duet on the Marvin Gaye classic "If This World Were Mine", which is still considered one of the great slow dance tunes. The single, "Look Before You Leap" is also featured here. Of course Chery's soaring voice is what truly made these albums enjoyable. This 2 cd set is a must have, not only for the diehard fan, but for every fan and really, everyone."
In the Night, Instant Love, Instant Gratification!

"All I can say is that it's about time these two first-rate r & b albums from the early 1980's, Cheryl Lynn's In the Night (1981) and Instant Love (1982) specifically, were rereleased in CD format domestically. How great to have both of them in the same jewel case.
Cheryl Lynn's (the most famous winner of The Gong Show in the 1970's) biggest across the board hit Got to Be Real which peaked in Jan. 1979 at #12 Pop and the smash club hit Star Love were already more than two years behind her when her third album In the Night was released. While the earlier efforts are excellent, I believe Ms. Lynn hit her artistic stride on these two albums. In the Night, produced by Ray Parker, Jr. and Instant Love, produced by Luther Vandross showcase Cheryl and her incredible vocal talents at their peak. Ms. Lynn moves easily from the big belting numbers to soft sensual ballads with enormous ease. The talented producers surrounded her with the best musicians in the business at the time and the results show. The liner notes read like a virtual who's who of top studio talent. Since each album had a singular producer at the helm these albums have a cohesiveness and vision that does not occur when multiple producers are employed and both producers don't overwhelm their singer with over production. Cheryl Lynn and her magnificent voice are center stage throughout.
There are no bad cuts on either album. On In the Night some of the highlights include the uptempo hit Shake It Up Tonight, What's On Your Mind, the title tune In the Night, the slower grooved Show You How and the funky Baby while Instant Love's title track, the fun Sleep Walkin', Say You'll Be Mine and the beautiful duet with Luther Vandross of If This World Were Mine are all highlights here. Even though these are highlights, all cuts on both albums are top-notch. The sound quality on these CD's is excellent as well.
Some of the production may seem "early '80's", but these two albums are still very enjoyable 25 and 24 years later and will put you in a great mood if you were a fan at the time, still are a fan or just discovering a performer such as Cheryl Lynn now. Cheryl Lynn has a wonderful voice and these albums are a fine testament to a time when singers with real talent and powerful voices were being showcased.
One minor disappointment is that there is no additional information included other than the original liner notes. It would have been nice to read about the "making of" these albums and to have chart positions noted. There are no bonus tracks either. Both albums are as released originally. What is here is excellent though and I highly recommend this release. As the reviewer Vernon said so well, "you won't be disappointed".

"Cheryl Lynn was one of those performers who actually was hindered by the disco era. She is infamous for her disco greats GOT TO BE REAL and STAR LOVE. Amazing vocals on both and tracks that turned them into dance club classics. But these two albums here - IN THE NIGHT and INSTANT LOVE, which are two of the very best from her career, even though in the disco vein show the true versatility and range Cheryl Lynn possessed.
The industry knew the gift she had for these two albums are produced by two of the biggest names at the time. The first by Ray Parker Jr. and the second by Luther Vandross. They are both superb but my favorite of the two is her work with Ray Parker jr. on IN THE NIGHT. This album managed to rise above the disco genre and show a more mature, versatile Cheryl Lynn and there are some beautiful ballads and soulful r@b tracks here. SHAKE IT UP TONIGHT is the disco hit here but my favorites are the intense, mature rockin r@b tracks I'M ON FIRE, WHAT'S ON YOUR MIND and BABY. And her full vocal range is displayed in the ballads SHOW YOU HOW and HURRY HOME.
Luther Vandross took charge with INSTANT LOVE and his sound is unmistakable. Hits are SLEEP WALKIN and the beautiful duet IF THIS WORLD WERE MINE. This is definitely an eclectic set. The ballads BELIEVE IN ME and DAY AFTER DAY are mezmerizing. He also has her rockin and jammin on some great r@b tracks LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP, SAY YOU'LL BE MINE and I JUST WANNA BE YOUR FANTASY.
The remastering here is superb and the sound is crystal clear. It is also a nice bonus that each album is on a separate cd. Bottom line, in my opinion, is that Cheruyl Lynn is a great talent who may have been around longer had she not been cast aside like many disco singers were. She was a true diva at the time and I would have loved to see a full career from her beyond disco utilizing her vocal gifts.
I highly recommend this cd. Quality music is timeless."

"I'm glad I purchased this double CD. My "Shake it up tonight" cassette tape saw better days. It is not audible any longer. The quality of these recordings is crisp and excellent. I only hope that the collectables staff release Cheryl's other two 1980's albums: "In love" and "Encore"."
