""Love hurts" was released in 1991 and had a big impact in Europe, specially in the U.K where debuted at #1 and had that position for 5 weeks, been certified Platinum x3. The first single was "Love and understanding", which was a Top 10 hit. Whether in the U.S it only reached Gold status and the singles didn't chart and happends to be unknow in that territorie.
The production of "Love hurts" features big names as Diane Warren and Desmond Child.
I'm a big fan of Cher and I think that her best albums are: "Cher" (1987), "Heart of stone" (1989) and "Love hurts". These 3 albums had the same direction (an example of that are the albums "Believe" and "Living proof").
The lyrics in "Love hurts" are fantastic, they're strong and have lots of feelings.
Geffen released 2 versions of this album. The American that has 11 tracks and the European with 12. The "extra" track is the 1991 European #1 hit "It's in his kiss" from the movie "Mermaids". The other songs have the same version on both editions. The other difference in this production is the artwork.
I highly recommend this album if you're a Cher lover."

"Love Hurts" by Cher

"-Love Hurts (1991)-
Cher is definately one of the best singers around today and certainly one of the greatest survivors in the music industry. In 1998, she released "Believe" and that was it - she was popular again. This song made her famous all over again. The album "Believe" was also a great effort, and one of Cher's best, but this also remains one of Cher's best album's. The album hit #1 in the UK and includes the singles "Love Hurts", "Save Up All Your Tears", "Love And Understanding", "It's In His Kiss (The Shoop Shoop Song)" and "Could've Been You". "It's In His Kiss (The Shoop Shoop Song)" and "Love And Understanding" both hit the Top 10 in the UK, however the other singles faired poorly on the Charts - none of the other three even hit the Top 20! All of the songs on this album had the ability to become singles, but only five got the chance...
1. Save Up All Your Tears (10/10)
2. Love Hurts (10/10)
3. Love And Understanding (10/10)
4. Fires Of Eden (10/10)
5. I'll Never Stop Loving You (10/10)
6. One Small Step (10/10)
7. A World Without Heroes (10/10)
8. Could've Been You (10/10)
9. When Love Calls Your Name (10/10)
10. When Lovers Become Strangers (10/10)
11. Who You Gonna Believe (10/10)
12. It's In His Kiss (The Shoop Shoop Song) (10/10)
Overall: 120/120
This is one of the very few album's I have where I'd give every song 10/10. All of the songs on this album are outstanding, and as I said above, they all had the opportunity to be released as singles. My favourite song on the album is "When Love Calls Your Name". "Save Up All Your Tears" is one of Cher's best singles. The single only hit #37 in the UK but remains one of my favourites. "Love Hurts" only hit #43 and although I like loads of songs on the album more than this one, it's still excellent and I still gave it 10/10. "Love And Understanding" hit #10 in the UK, and is a great song about needing more love and understanding in the world. "Could Have Been You" was another single from this album - it hit #31 in the UK, whereas "It's In His Kiss (The Shoop Shoop Song)" from the film MERMAIDS, was the lucky #1. The album tracks must not be missed either, especially "When Love Calls Your Name" as this song has a strong message and Cher's vocals are great!
My top five:
5. Who You Gonna Believe
4. It's In His Kiss (The Shoop Shoop Song)
3. Save Up All Your Tears
2. Could've Been You
1. When Love Calls Your Name"
Great CD

"Love hurts is an extremly enjoyable album from Cher, true this is not one her best CD's, but it isn't her worse either. The selection of songs are upbeat and the lyrics are included with the CD. If you are a Cher fan then you will probably enjoy "Love Hurts" but really it is just a matter of personal taste, I have heard some people say that they can't stand this album, but others think that it's brilliant. I, personally, am very glad that I bought it."
This doesn't hurt at all

"Cher had a big comeback in the late 1980's with two albums and several hit singles, including "I Found Someone" and "Turn Back Time". After incarnations as a part of a pop duo that was Sonny and Cher, a story-song singer in "Half Breed" and "Gypsys, Tramps and Thieves", and a disco singer with "Take Me Home", these albums had Cher singing her "first love"--rock and roll. My opinion is that Cher has always been strongest singing rock and roll--her voice is so strong that it belongs with loud music accompanying her. This album was the least successful in the US of the "Geffen troika", the other two albums being "Cher" and "Heart of Stone". However, I think it is the most enjoyable of the three, and each song is a success.
In the US there were two hit singles from this release, "Love and Understanding" and "Save Up All Your Tears". My favourite is the latter, even though it wasn't as successful as "Love and Understanding". Both sound like a ray of sunlight on a cold winter day. "Save Up..." is about strength in the face of broken love; "Love..." is about how the world simply needs more love and understanding. I remember the sexy video for "Love and Understanding"; understandably, my mother did not want her four-year-old watching hardly anything to do with Cher! In the UK, where this album was one of the biggest of Cher's career, "Love Hurts" and "Could've Been You" were also hits. In "Could've Been You", Cher doesn't seek to "get even" or have revenge on her former lover who left her--she simply reminds him, with a hint of compassion, that it was not her decision to leave their relationship, and that her old companion had missed the boat on a future together. To me, break-up songs that seek no revenge make the best ones, and this song fits in that category. In "Love Hurts", Cher doesn't lose dignity while being distraught over the pain in her relationship. The guitars seem to wail right along with her.
One thing I love about this album is how within the seemingly standard love songs, there are hints of spirituality that make the songs have more meaning and depth. "Fires of Eden," "One Small Step" (a duet with Richard Page from Mr. Mister), "When Love Calls Your Name", and even the dark "A World Without Heroes" seem to insinuate faith in something stronger than us, which takes these songs beyond standard pop/rock fare. This does tie in with Cher's faith in God, and I'm glad that she chose to record something deeper than what most pop/rock albums offer.
Other gems on this album include the heartbreaking "I'll Never Stop Loving You" (co-written by David Cassady, and a song that I used to cry to as a kid), and another personal strength song in the album closer "Who You Gonna Believe." The only weak song to me is "When Lovers Become Strangers", but even that is listenable.
Cher is now best known for her dance hits in "Believe" etc., and I hope that this album is never forgotten in the midst of her remaining catalogue. Fans of rock and roll music with a deeper perspective and little in the way of hedonism will not be disappointed."
