"When I was 17 and played 'Open Up Wide' for the very 1st time, I almost ran out of my room it scared me so much. After hearing that I knew that's the way to play trumpet! Chase was totally unlike any other brass rock band, I mean if BS&T could get an award for being the most "innovative" jazz-pop group, and 'Chicago' being the most "commerically" successful, then 'Chase' should get the award for being the most exciting jazz-rock horn band ever born.
Led by the greatest lead trumpeter in jazz history; Bill Chase led this exciting band in th early '70's after a post tenure 6 + years as lead trumpeter with Woody Herman's Big Band(s).
What all other reviewers have written pretty much sums it up. Sony NEEDS to put this CD in stero, not the cheesy Quad version. One cool note, if anyone has or can find the original LP with the yellow Epic label on it, you can pull out one speaker or channel and just listen to Chase's lead parts on the LP. Very cool effect."
