"Salsa has expanded perimeters. Being lovers of piano we have centered on Eddie Parlmieri,his "Vortex" album leads this thrust. We remember Eddie when in was the Palladium gofer of the Puente Band, filling in on occasion for brother Charlie at the keyboard. Recently we thought to revisit big brother Charlie's music and listened to "Giant Step". Eddie you are great, inovative and compelling. But "Oh my" Charlie is still the master! Under his hands the instrument sings lyrically then pounds rhythmically as it takes you to places deep within. "Be Careful It's My Heart" defines the album. Charlie seems carefree but rest assured your in wonderful hands."

"Charlie Palmieri may well be the most underrated Latin/salsa pianist of our time with gigantic quantities of talent, chops, knowledge, and taste-- "de sobra"--to spare. It overflowed. Charlie's playing integrated traditional classically based pianistic flourish with AfroCaribbean rhythm. After decades with his New York based dance and descarga bands, when the dust finally settled, when he stepped back and breathed, he recorded A Giant Step, where his focus was on his own playing--virtuosic, clean, exact, precise, traditional, and exciting. How fortunate we are that Charlie Palmieri left us this wonderful recording. Check out, especially, the tense ebb and flow of Rhumba Rhapsody; you will be amazed at how he carries you. The traditional danza of "Sombras de un Pino" has both elegance and swing. The interpretation of brother Eddie's Muneca is as hot as that of a salsa orchestra. The percussionists (and they are also masters) are tight; piano and percussion fit like hands in velvet-lined gloves. Charlie was the last to play like this, a worthy tribute to his predecessor pianists in the AfroCaribbean tradition. This is a masterful work. If you love piano, find this recording if you can."
