CD Reviews

GREAT MUSIC
J. Parker | Oregon | 05/05/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"As a lifetime Charley Pride fan, I found this to be one of the best CD releases of his music. I finally found two songs (Busted and The Snakes Crawl at Night) which I only had previously on albums. It's a shame that Charley's music has not transitioned into CD format any better than it has, but hopefully with the release of this compilation (and some of the others recently released) that that will change and Charley can finally be recognized for what he is...THE GREATEST Country music singer of all time!"
Another good one

"A fine Basic Collection of Charley Pride hits; and I do mean "basic". While ther are 16 songs here, it doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of one of the finest voices to ever hit country music. Here's a man that needs to get back to recording. Country music has been blessed with songs from the Coal Mines of Apppalachia, the praries of Texas, the mountains of Tennessee, and the Rail Yards across the country. But Charley was the first and by far, the most credible, voice of the cotton fields of the southern lowlands. It was much needed, and by God, we need more of it! This album touches on the biggest hits of his RCA career, inlcuding of course, "Kiss an Angel..", and "Somebody Loves You", but more importantly, it also brings back some of his older hits, to include: "Does My Ring Hurt Your Finger", "Snakes Crawl At Night", and "All I have To Offer You". There is quite a contrast between his older, more traditional, songs, and the later "late-70's" pop-oriented country numbers, but an album attempting to cover the era of Charley Pride is gonna have some contrast. A Fine album, well worth your money."

"If you only purchase one Charley Pride CD, this is the best. Beautiful original RCA recordings including all of his best from the sixties and early seventies. Charley Pride has such a sweet baritone voice and he remained true to the old country music sound."
