Putting the "Soul" in Soul Mother

"Charles Milling's debut CD is called "Soul Mother," and it is filled with Milling's heart and soul. These come out mostly in his lyrics, but they are also apparent in the tunes he writes. "Curtains and Candles" is a beautiful example of sincere but sophisticated poetry accompanied by a progressive jazzy sound. "Alone" blends upbeat music with a dark edge: "You wage love like a war." Milling creates memorable imagery in songs like "Dare Do Way" and "Dragonfly," while a hopeful spirituality pervades "Trustfall." I love this album. It had something for almost every mood in which I found myself the week I first listened to it. It still does."
