World premiere recordings of the Chansons bretonnes reveal Koechlin's harmonic style at its purest and most restrained. Debussy's only cello sonata is included for comparison in rounding out the disc. Charles Koechlin (1867-1950) was the teacher of Francis Poulenc and Germaine Tailleferre, and had a major influence on Darius Milhaud and other French composers associated with Erik Satie.
