CD ReviewsIt goes and goes. Samuel Chell | Kenosha,, WI United States | 02/14/2004 (4 out of 5 stars) "A collection that couldn't have sold more than 3 copies in its first release (1999), its producers have somehow seen fit to issue a 2003 update. No doubt B3 players will welcome this value-priced, long-programmed representation of the "Mighty Burner's" soulful heat. The CD packs a lot of music on a single disc, playing on and on. To my ears, the sound becomes a trifle wearing after the first 30 minutes, but what prevents me from tuning out is the solo work of Bill Hardman (whose conceptions are as daring as his technique is formidable), Jimmy Ponder (one of the best at complementing a B3), and Frank Wess (taken for granted because of being buried in the Basie pack for so many years). If you're even mildly disposed toward the sound of the B3, purchase with confidence: you'll get your investment back with this one."
