Product DescriptionLIVE RECORDING, Brussels February 2005 La Muette de Portici is an astonishing piece of work, revealing in Auber a different tone than the amiable trifling normally associated with his name. In this grand opera about the Spanish Occupation in Naples and a mute heroine, we hear an inspiration and a passion which do not exclude sentiment. The opera was first performed in Belgium 175 years ago and sparked off the Brabant revolution that led to the founding of Belgium as we know it today. The international consulting firm Accenture organised this historical concert for its clients and its contacts. Wishing to make a contribution to the long-term assistance needed by victims of the South-East Asian tsunami, the organisers decided to release the recording of the concert on CD and to donate all profits to the organisations for international aid. All musicians agreed that their royalties also should be donated in order to show their support. Soloists Anja van Engeland and Alexei Grigorev are both renowned singers on stage all over Europe. Conductor Walter Proost has worked with major orchestras in Europe, the USA and Asia.
