"I take no credit for having found this rather obscure recording: it was chosen as the best CD of the Debussy and Ravel by BBC Radio 3's "Building a Library". Having secured a copy for myself I found that it was very moving, beautifully recorded (perhaps more breathing than I'd like to hear, but string players need oxygen too!). I've lived with the wonderful recording by the Quartetto Italiano for years, but this, for me, gets closer to the heart of it: the slow movement of the Debussy has never grabbed my whole being so much, even in live performances. It's good!"
