"Arnold wrote these in war time for varying members of the London Philharmonic as they toured. So then this marvelous variety of istrument combos: flute, violin, horn, viola and bassoon on the first in a Quintet, which is cheerful and vibrant. The Duo for Flute and Viola is marvelous, with its fine matching of two exquisite sounds. The Divertimento for Flute, Oboe and Clarinet is my favorite, since is highlights these premier wind instruments in fine piece, punctuated by a miniature Pomp and Circumstance. The finale "Three Shanties for Wind Quintet" is known as the most played among these pieces and most loved of Arnold's music, since revolve around dance movements between the instruments. All nicely done by this fine British chamber group."
