CD Reviews

The Best Album by a really great band
aaaaaaambition | norman, ok USA | 02/09/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This review is going to be short. The Chainsaw Kittens have a number of great albums, Flipped Out in Singapore is close to as good as this, Violent Religion and their self titled albums are both excellent, and the All American is pretty good as well. Anyway, it's a shame that they didn't get noticed too much, even on scratchie, which has something, although I'm not sure what, to do with Smashing Pumpkins. They also have a good cover of that Go-Gos song on the tribute on 4 Alarm records, and the High In High School EP has their cover of "One" by Three Dog Night, which is "one" (haha) of only like 3 or 4 covers that I like more than the original. Anyway, you should try to buy all of their albums, I don't know if this is out of print or not. They're from my town so it's relatively easy to find their stuff here. Tyson played a sweet solo show at this local annual concert, so it's good to see that he's still doing stuff. Thanks for reading."
Dive Into The Sea
M. Acquisto | Sacramento, CA | 06/06/2003
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Chainsaw Kittens' "Pop Heiress" album is probably their heaviest album, sonically speaking. This cd starts with one of the most intense opening songs in Rawk history,"Sore On The Floor", which
features possibly the best scream ever, courtesy of Tyson Meade. Although "Heiress" has many great killer pop/hard rock songs, like "I Ride Free", and "Loneliest China Place", and the near perfect Cheap Trick-inspired "Justine Find Heaven", the favorite tune here, is the most atmospeheric, engaging ballad I've heard in a long time in "Dive Into The Sea". It's lyrics are haunting and soothing all at once, with a melody so dream like-it kills. Meade's vocals are great as usual, and the band really shines here. Although this is really not their best record overall(the self-titled '96 cd is a lot better), just the fact that "Dive" is on here, makes it very special indeed. Highly recommended.
Cheers,
Mike Acquisto"

"I had not listened to Pop Heiress in a quite a while. I forgot how amazing these guys are. Even after all these years they are still one of my most loved bands. Their music is so unique it will never sound dated. This is a testament to a truly talented band. I recommend any of their albums but Pop Heiress and Flipped Out in Singapore are spectacular."
