"Cerberus Shoal, with this album begins their departure away from the Mogwai-and-Tristeza postROCK and dronerock and spacerock... and begins to head to other territories. It's not all there yet (their newest stuff is amazingly cut from a different cloth than all these genres), and retains some psych mastery, but it all depends which disk you're listening to... The first disk is a pseudo-jamband trumpet-laden funky romp through the sadness of skyscrapers, getting lost in a lost world. There is rhythm and it isn't the chugga-chugga postrock avant repetitiveness. It's dynamic. The second disk is a radical departure between the new stuff and the old stuff. There is a lot more eastern-tinged mantra-like think-pieces on the second disk, but there are also some distilled versions of the more dynamic Cerberus Shoal.... There are some vocals, blended in pretty well as usual. The production is pretty slick, and it's safe to say that this album will take you somewhere. For myself, it represents cities the way Godspeed represents war."
