Short Review

"The first minute of the opening track on this CD sums up CCS at it's best. Pounding drums, rattling percussion and a thumping bass are overlaid with a boogie-woogie piano and a fuzzed up guitar. The horn section blasts out counterpoint charts and then, after this long rollicking introduction, Alexis Korner spits out a sarcastic, tongue-in-cheek lyric about "The high school hooker was once a good looker".
CCS (Collective Consciousness Society) made three albums in the early seventies (all now available on CD). The band plays a mix of originals and old rock chestnuts. The covers go between a tad cheesy ("Lola") and rock solid ("Shakin' All Over"). The originals, for the most part, shine.
The CD contains 2 excellent singles, "Band Played the Boogie" and "Hurricane Coming".
If you like horn driven rock played by the cream of session musicians you might want to buy a CCS CD (I bought 'em all).
This is a good place to start."
