"I'll get right to the point: If you love the ska and rocksteady that came out of Jamaica during the pre-reggae period from about 1963-1967, you simply can't do better than this 2-CD set!
This long overdue collection contains Justin's great ska tunes from the early (and best) part of his career -- 'Carry Go Bring Come', 'Satan', 'Over The River', 'Rub Up Push Up', 'Come Bail Me (This Woman)', 'Jump Out of The Frying Pan', 'Try Me', 'Peace and Love', 'Early One Morning (Holy Dove)', 'After A Storm' -- right on through to some of the best of his later tunes, such as 'Botheration (reggae version)', 'Drink Milk', and 'Everywhere I Go (Travel With Love)'.
It's really a shame that Justin Hinds, who died earlier this year, never enjoyed the international recogition or the commercial success that many far lesser talents who followed him received during the reggae boom of the 1970's and 1980's. This new Trojan anthology should make a significant part of his best work widely available in a convenient package.
I pre-ordered this before its release in July 2005, and since I got it in the mail, I have not stopped playing it. Several friends and family members who are too young to have heard of Justin Hinds & The Dominoes back when they were active recording artists have now heard the music on these CDs and have become fans. Justin's lyrics are imaginative and inspirational, and the backing musicians, such as the legendary Tommy McCook & The Supersonics, are consistently outstanding.
If I could give this collection 10 stars, I would! The tunes are that good."
