One of her best efforts

"I've been a fan of Carrie's since I first heard her perform in 1993. One of her first recordings on a national label (Rounder), The Bird or the Wing is classic Carrie Newcomer, packed with intelligent, passionate lyrics and a strong sense of melody. Though I own all of Carrie's recordings (many now) several tracks from this disc are on my personal "best of" compilation CDR, including "Holy Ground" and "Wisdom is watching." Though not outright _excellent_ as her later "My Father's Only Son," (a desert island disc for me), this is still a must have for fans of intelligent singer-songwriters. As a guitarist, I'm also pleased to hear Carrie experiment with new open tunings and production techniques that create a very pleasing mix from her typical small-bodied instruments."
One of the ten best cds in my 500+ collection!

"Carrie is a true find. once you've heard one of her cds you'll want them all, but buy this one first. A stunning, unique alto voice, combined with her wise, haunting, sincere and always honest songwriting. Bird or the Wing is a treasure and a pleasure from start to finish. Best tracks: Closer to Home, Yes of Yes, Holy Ground."
Irresistable
