"A true pioneer and flute veteran, Paula Robison was one of the founding members of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. She has played everywhere with everyone at some point (Marlboro) she directed Spoleto for over a decade, but her True contribution maybe the commissioning of new flute concerti, written for her by composers Leon Kirchner, the late Toru Takemitsu, British composer and conductor Oliver Knussen and Juilliard's own Robert Beaser. This disc gives a small glimpse into the world of Robison as the true compleat musician. Her programming blends the 'golden' oldies of the flute repertory with new arrangements as well as 20th century repertory. Despite the availability of about 3-4 other recordings (including Emmanuel Pahud) of the Dutilleux Sonatine, Paula Roibson's recording OUTSHINES them all. Her tone is so pure, it cuts like a razor when she needs to overpower the piano (believe it!), or soars like a dove listening to the sounds of the cosmos. In the Carmen Fantasia, her flawless technique is everywhere present, but never stands in the way of the music. She has unbelievable breath control and can build phrase upon phrase in unexpected ways taking the listener on a rollercoaster ride of emotion. Get to know one of the flute greats, buy the disc!"
Great CD!

"I'd heard so much about Paula Robison so I was really excited about getting this cd. I would recommend this to any serious flute player or music patron. Her interpretations of the Carmen Fantasy and the Dutilleux Sonatine are the definite highlights."
