Carlinhos Brown Alfagamabetizado Genres:Dance & Electronic, International Music, Jazz, Latin Music During the course of 16 tracks, Carlinhos Brown effortlessly references just about every style in Brazilian music from samba and batucada to afoxe and adds a few more outside influences of his own with the fearless confide... more »nce of a self-appointed visionary. Traditional sambas ("Covered Saints," the beautiful ballad "Quixabeira") are juggled in with reggae, hip hop, '70s soul, rap, and occasional hard rock elements to create a swirling, idiosyncratic concoction of every conceivable musical permutation imaginable, but always Brazilian at its core; the batteria-heavy bloco Afro sound is all-pervasive, firing most of the tunes with an unmistakable carnival beat. Apart from some great young musicians, there are appearances from established megastars like Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, Gal Costa, and Maria Bethana--further testament to the respect Carlinhos Brown now commands. With its P-Funk overtones, Alfagamabetizado is most certainly a work of the 20th century, but it is painted in the colors of the forest, the villages, the cities, the markets, and the people. --Derek Rath« less

"Some may disagree with me, but I have to say that this album is the best by Carlinhos Brown. I like it much better than both Omelet Man and hiw new one, Bahia do Mundo - mito e verdade. To me, Carlinhos Brown is kind of a Brazilian Lenny Kravitz with a similar groovy, dance-rock style but with a Brazilian spice to it. As with most Brazilian artists, the CD can't get away without having at least a couple slow, cheesy tracks but if you get over how light and pop-y they are, the slow songs on this album are almost good. Other than that one complaint, 90% of this CD is nothing but energetic, artistic, funky, rocking great Brazilian beats. Highly recommended."

"carlinhos is a genius. this album, in my opinion, covers the entire spectrum of human emotions, some of which i never knew even existed untill late one night (after 9 months in brazil) on an island beach in the south of brazil, with this album and a good friend and the waves and the stars...
i'd heard this album before, but i never got it untill the next morning- i woke up practically levitating in bed, carlinhos pulsing in my bones....
so while music lover picked up on track 12, which i think is the most accessible, others are on a whole other level that is rarely achieved anywhere, by anyone. yes carlinhos' lyrics are nonsense- so is shakespeare, on many levels- but the lyrics capture a sense of the absurd, surreal, dreamy, and a real brazilian sense of humor. BUY THIS ALBUM!!!"

"en este cd, carlinhos nos da lo mejor de su musica, dentro de los mas destacado del ritmo caracteristico bahiano, con su ritmo tan caracteristico y alegre. Es una version mejorada de los muy buenos trabajos que el realizo con timbalada. Sin duda uno de los mejores musicos bahianos de la actualidad. Un cd imperdible para todos los que amamos la musica de brasil, y no solo la bossa nova o el samba"
One of the great albums

"the title for my review says it all. This is one of the most beautiful, exciting, and moving albums I've ever heard. A percussionist friend recommended it to me years ago, and I've always been thankful. If you think you might like it, just get it. You'll probably love it."
