Synopsis

Album Description
Raven presents for the first time on one CD two timeless albums by legendary American hard rock band CAPTAIN BEYOND. With superb quality audio, detailed liner notes, color booklet. Originally released in 1972 and 1973 respectively, Captain Beyond and Sufficiently Breathless are considered to be tour de forces of the American Hard Rock tradition, albums brimming with a multitude of catchy riffs, astonishingly adept musicianship and a palpable sense of drama. Formed in 1971 by master musicians Larry `Rhino' Reinhardt (guitar; ex-Iron Butterfly), Lee Dorman (bass; ex-Iron Butterfly), Bobby Caldwell (drums; ex-Johnny Winter) and Rod Evans (vocals; ex-Deep Purple), Captain Beyond forged an identity of sheer class with their sophisticated and soaring brand of progressive hard rock. Captain Beyond boasts a conceptual flow of music, with riffs and songs combining seamlessly to form distinct suites of music yet it remains as a whole. `Dancing Madly Backwards (On a Sea of Air)', `Raging River Of Fear' and `Thousand Days Of Yesterdays (Time Since Come and Gone)' are at the pinnacle of the 1970s hard rock genre. Sufficiently Breathless features a heavier space rock / astral blues vibe with added elements thrown in for good measure, from vibrant Latin funk (`Bright Blue Tango') and heavy metal with a funk base (`Drifting in Space') to progressive fusion (`Starglow Energy').

CD Reviews

Butcherd The Original Version

"Steer clear of this one. They ruined the original version by putting gaps in between songs that normally flow into another. I was appalled they even did this!! What were they thinking?? Also sound is not that great. Hold on to your Capricorn remasters until someone does this fabulous release justice."
Incredible remaster by RAVEN again! Every remaster they do i

"Ok..I sent allot of emails to the Australian label RAVEN to suggest this release. I cannot be sure I played a role, but I certainly suggested it enough. What a treat! For those of you who do not know,.. RAVEN is an Australian lable who does incredible remastering. Every piece I have purchased from them is amazing. The sound is WAY, WAY better than the remasters from Capricorn. If you are a fan of these two albums and care about the sound BUY IT! The first Captian Beyond album is one of the classics of all time. No need for me to talk about the albums because any fan knows what they consist of...It's the sound here that people ned to know about! Check out the whole RAVEN catalog because if any of your fave albums have been released by them you need to buy it...LESLIE WEST, HARVEY MANDEL, SHUGGIE OTIS, ALBERT LEE and on and on...great remasters by RAVEN.

re: the 19+ comments. UPDATE*** A few very knowledgable Captain Beyond fans pointed out a couple problems with this release. They were right. However, the production flaws was CORRECTED and this IS BY FAR the definitive version of this cd released to date! Anyone who claims that the sound quality on this release is not good just doesnt have the critical-listening skills to be evaluating. There is way more midrange than before! There is no comparison between this and the Capricorn version (or the Japanese versions) RAVEN is an amazing company and have a long histroy of attention to detail. It's a shame the initial batch had some flaws but they fixed this issue. Do NOT hestitate to purchase this CD!

Please ignore the ridiculous one-star review by this guy "Brian"..what does he expect them to do have one long file with no index points?"
ARMWORTH RAVEN ABOUT...but BEWARE

"Hello all...I have listened to the corrected copy of this release (2009/RAVEN) and am happy to say it sounds fine. For the most part, clarity and definition are improved...especially when compared to domestic pressings of these two albums. If you own the Japanese pressings you already have a well produced product.

My real concerns are for those who want the Raven remaster but are unsure what they will receive from AMAZON or any retail seller. My friend and I were somewhat successful in getting RAVEN to correct the problems with their initial release but have no idea if they recalled the defective product and replaced them with the corrected version. How many are left in current inventories is anyone's guess.

I was able to get a corrected copy directly from Raven which they will probably send to anyone having purchased the problematic version.

Therefore, you may wish to contact AMAZON or RAVEN (info@ravenrecords.com.au) directly to assure you are getting what you pay for. Good luck...
