Product DescriptionWhat can you say about Canned Heat that has not been said before? This super group that cut their first album in 1966, went on to take the Monterey festival by storm alongside The Who, Hendrix and Janis Joplin in 1967 and are still, some 40 albums, 40 years, and a number of personnel changes later making records. This 2 CD compilation comes from two eras of the band. Disc 1 is the first album they cut (although not released until after Canned Heat and Boogie With Canned Heat had done the business for them) and is here in its entirety. With Bob Hite on vocals, Alan Wilson on slide, harp and additional vocals, Henry Vestine on lead guitar, Stuart Brotman on bass and Frank Cook on drums this is the original line up of Canned Heat.
By the time we reach the second disc none of the original members were left, with 2 members having died of drug related illness, and the rest being replaced for various reasons, the new line up was none the less impressive. Walter Trout now an accomplished blues man in his own right took the helm and a selection of excellent players was alongside him. Recorded during a tour of Australia in 1981 it is a fine live cut. This is a worthy addition to the collections of both Canned Heat fans and 'boogie blues' aficionados.
