Amazon.comIn the '70s, Los Cadetes de Linares ascended to the top echelons of norteño with a simple but engaging mix of bass-thumping corridos and the nice vocal harmonies of Homero Guerrero Sr. (who also wrote songs for the group) and Lupe Tijerina. Patterned after Los Algres de Teran, another seminal group, Los Cadetes stood out for their flush but brawny boleros, ringing corridos, and rhythmic cumbias. At the heart of norteño is the corrido, and Los Cadetes were superb interpreters of the form, as evidenced here by "Corrido e Joe Lopez," "Corrido de Arturo Garza Trevino," and "El Texanito." Los Cadetes also deliver solid bluesy-norteño grooves on the boleros "Ven a Buscarme" and "Me Voy, Me Voy." --Ramiro Burr
