Synopsis

Product Description
Modern computer technology allows performances of Joplin's music with precise control of tempi and dynamics. In "Fig Leaf Rag" Joplin noted 100 quarter notes per second and also gave the qualitative note "Slow March Tempo" found in earlier work as well. This is a good deal faster than modern piano performances, but can be computerized. Joplin's lack of tempo variations indicates the rags found here should be played with a steady beat - and that's how they were programmed. The result is a unique and true-to-Joplin interpretation. Joplin also composed marches, waltzes, and other dances. Some of his best are also included here to provide a well-rounded summary of his work. This package contains two CD's. An audio CD is formatted for use in modern CD players; it contains recordings of keyboard performances. A data CD is formatted for use with WINDOWS. MIDI files are included on it and may be played at a slower tempo for instructional purposes. The MIDI files were also transcribed into standard notation and formatted for printing. Finally, a brief composer biography and music commentary is included. PDF format is used for the last two items.
